7zip free file archiver[/caption]7-Zip is a file archiver with a high compression ratio. 7-Zip is open source software. Most of the source code is under the GNU LGPLlicense. The unRAR code is under a mixed license: GNU LGPL + unRAR restrictions.

7-Zip works in Windows 7 / Vista / XP / 2008 / 2003 / 2000 / NT / ME / 98. There is a port of the command line version to Linux/Unix. Compression ratio results are very dependent upon the data used for the tests. Usually, 7-Zip compresses to 7z format 30-70% better than to zip format. And 7-Zip compresses to zip format 2-10% better than most of other zip compatible programs.
